LAS ESTACIONES DE TREN BRITÁNICAS DEL FUTURO PUEDEN SER GRANDIOSAS (Y DEBEN SER MUY, PERO MUY BRITÁNICAS).

Gran Bretaña tiene una historia increíble de diseño, gusto, personalidad y funcionalidad en lo que respecta al transporte público. Sus protagonistas se convirtieron en íconos, actores cargados de emoción que llenaron a Gran Bretaña de un poderoso sentido de identidad. Solo basta mirar alrededor... los colectivos de doble piso y los remises negros son formidables.
El transporte británico es también un sello de identidad; los trenes son parte de este legado. Desde la época victoriana, las estaciones centrales de tren han sido un símbolo de belleza dedicado a las necesidades modernas: fueron catedrales del progreso. Y las estaciones de los pueblos han sido sus fieles seguidoras, convirtiéndose en capillas coherentes con ese estilo.
Una estación es un lugar para vivir, incluso si la vida en ella dura apenas unos minutos. Deberían conectarte con la cultura, con el mundo, con el momento presente, y también deberían conectarte con... la estación de tren en sí misma, esa en la que (también) esperas un tren.
¿Qué tal si pensamos en estaciones que generen un sentido de progreso ecológico en nuestra relación con el medio ambiente? Los trenes, que hoy en día son seres cada vez más eficientes energéticamente, deberían decirnos —desde las estaciones mismas, desde la atmósfera del lugar— que están acá para sumarle un tono natural, ecológico y botánico al ritmo visual de la comunidad. Una estación que cobije actividades comunitarias, tales como huertas, encuentros y propuestas culturales. Que ofrezca espacio público para mercados comunitarios y actividades al aire libre en áreas hoy ocupadas por estacionamientos. Un lugar acogedor, lindo, curioso; hermosamente normal dentro de la comunidad.
Bienvenidos a las Grandes Estaciones de Tren para el futuro de Gran Bretaña. Si hay algo que todos deberíamos aprender, es que el viaje hacia nuestro futuro como nación tiene que empezar desde el principio: de manera hermosa, reconfortante y afectuosa. Desde una estación que se vea, se sienta y sea grandiosa.

BRITISH TRAIN STATIONS OF THE FUTURE CAN BE GREAT (AND MUST BE VERY, VERY BRITISH).

Great Britain has an amazing history of design, taste, personality and functionality when it comes to public transport. Their actors have become icons, emotionally charged protagonists that have filled Great Britain with powerful sense of self. Just look around... double-deckers, black cabs are amazing.
British transport is also a stamp of identity; trains are part of this legacy. From Victorian times, central train stations have been a symbol of beauty dedicated to modern needs, they have been cathedrals of progress. And the village stations have been their faithful followers, they have become consistent chapels.
A station is a place to live, even if living in a station lasts a few minutes. They should plug you into culture, into the world, into this moment, and they should also connect you to... a train station itself in which you (also) wait for a train.
How about stations that produce a sense of eco-progress in our relationship with the environment. Trains, now every time more energy-efficient beings, should tell us, from the stations themselves, from the atmosphere in the station, that they are here to add a natural, ecological, botanic tone to the visual rhythm of the community. A station that gives haven to community activities, such as community gardens, cultural and meeting. Offering public space to community markets and exterior activities today filled with parking. Welcoming, cute, a curious, beautifully normal within the community.
Welcome to Great Train Stations for the future of Great Britain. If there is something we should all learn, is that a journey to our future as a nation must start from the beginning, beautifully, reassuringly, lovingly. From a station that looks and feels and is great.
